Yup...I was concerned when I first saw the filter. Ran a clean paper towel around the inside of the airbox and I was happy to see it remained clean.

Default oil change place

The majority of the responses range from "OMG!!!" to "Wow that's bad go ahead and replace it" to "I know it needs it but I can't afford it today". However one in every 15 customers will look at one of those and say "It's fine, put it back" after I walked over to their door leaving a trail of dead bugs behind me. I really want to say, and I've heard my manager do this once, "No it's not fine, it needs to be replaced but if you don't want to do it now that fine, just don't lie to my face". I've seen airfilters I wouldn't use in a vacuum cleaner let alone any sort of engine, yes even that POS Briggs and Scrapiron from the 50s.

I've got others too, one guy came in with NO OIL in his engine. Pulled the plug, nothin came out. I'm guessing he thought the little oil light on the dash means change your oil. A few of our customers think it's ok to go 10000+ miles on dino oil. One time we pulled a cabin air filter and it was FULL of bird seed and mice droppings. My manager yanked the blower motor and we ended up with 3-4 pound of birdseed in the garbage can when we were done.

I digress, I will try and get a few pictures of the better ones that come in. I can't wait to start collecting bug on my Strom's AF, just gotta buy one first In the spring I hope.
im not saying anything bad about your place of work but the last time i had my car oil changed they destroyed my airbox[ lube x] , the threaded inserts were torn right out of the air box . have you ever seen workers use powered screw drivers to remove the lid ? thats the only way i could imagine them doing the damage they did .

I cleaned it and ran it another 5000 miles.
The leaf is a nice touch, and I dig the extreme detail afforded by the poster-size image. (Sorry DSL'ers)

That other thing's what I'd call a "Dirt n' Oil K&N Classic"

Thanks for sharing fellers.

Well, things definitely weren't as bad as I was expecting, considering the amount of dirt road riding I do, and how much of my riding is along fields thick with bugs and more... And since the guy I got my bike from had changed filters shortly before I bought it, I waited until the next oil change interval to check it - and had the pleasant surprise of finding he had installed a K&N filter and didn't mention it.

Well, thanks for playing FieroDude....

Maybe we can change this thread to something more along the lines of

Anytime You Check Your Filter Take a Pic of It and Post It Here

So, we'll "go that way" and see if we can get a little more participation.
