Givi touring windscreen, will it work for me?

I need a new windscreen. I have a Cee Bailey's but it's started cracking at the holes and it's butt ugly plus I had a buffeting problem with this screen on the stock mount. I did buy the Madstad brackets and this solved the buffeting issue. I'm considering a Givi touring screen and wondering if I will be looking through it or over it. I'm 5'8" with 32" inseam. Does anyone have any problems with this screen? I know about being careful about which way the sun shines on the screen to prevent melting the dash but I think this screen looks the best on the V-Strom. Sorry about another "windscreen thread" but I couldn't find anything during a search about height and looking through or over.

You could be looking over it...depending on which position you attach it and how much tilt you apply. My Givi screen is 22.5-inches tall. When I put it on the middle setting with a slight tilt back, I see over it. But I'm also 6' 1" tall and 32" inseam.

IMHO the CalSci is a far superior screen, albeit more expensive.

Here's a comparison of the Givi to a CalSci tall. Waldo has a CalSci medium, don't know how tall he is. The Givi has the black base. The mounting holes are roughly aligned in this picture.

The CalSci is more squared off across the top, doesn't have the "kick" at the top (which creates turbulence), and has a NACA duct. If you don't like the NACA duct, you can order it without, but it makes quite a difference in how smooth and quiet the ride is at speed.

CalSci has a "Yardstick method for determining windshield height," that can give you a hard number. The guy who makes them is a researtch physicist and owns a V-Strom.

I look over mine at 5' 10'' 32 inseam, might be in I Falls for the CMA event Aug. 23 if you want to try it on your bike with the madstad

Waldo is about the same height as me and has the same 32" inseam I do. I talked to him on the phone last week about a seat trade. I kind of liked the Givi because of the price ($112) and the blacked out bottom portion of the screen. Maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth about spending $180 on the Cee Bailey's and having it crack at the mounting holes (not covered under warranty) and buffeting issues. Did I mention it's butt ugly. Was there a buffeting issue with the Givi? Do you know if there is a waiting period with the CalSci like there is for the Cee Bailey's? What did you end up paying for yours?

I like you Mt Washington sticker. I was there two weeks ago but couldn't go up because they closed the road to motorcycles because of rain!

Nice to hear from you. I planning a second tour to Vancouver Island down to Portland and I'll be leaving the last week in Aug. so I have to order the new screen pronto. Thanks for the offer. Do you have any kind of buffeting issues? I should have looked closer at your bike. What is the CMA event?

Mine came in a few days, and Mark was very responsive. I called and left a message and he called back that afternoon.

I took the Givi on a trip to VT and regretted it as soon as I hit the highway. The ride behind the CalSci is much better, and I think the shape looks better on the bike. The Givi is cheaper and many people like it, but it has the same recurve that Mark says causes some of the turbulence on the stocker - it's just not as extreme.

That's Waldo's windshield - the BPO drilled three sets of holes in it. He bought a medium. We swapped the Givi and CalSci to try it out.

I rode Janice's Fluffy with her Xtall Cee Bailey. I found it to be peculiar looking and a lot on rough roads compared to the CalSci. But she liked it.

If you cant get one let me know, I could use my factory for awhile, CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) No Borders event. I have no buffeting, set on the lowest setting.

I have a Givi and it works great for me. Im 6'4 though ... and I hear / read that Givi screens will melt your dash if out in the sun a while. I haven't have that problem but I have a Zumo 550 mounted about it so that might block it. Tough screen though - about 15k on mine and its holding up decent.
