Leaf Peepin'? on the BRP

Mid October is usually a good time to head up the Blue Ridge to see some fall colors.

I had family in town this weekend and didn't think that I'd have a chance to do any riding. But it was decided that I could escort them out of town this afternoon.

1st stop is for an early afternoon lunch on Lake Lure....things are still looking pretty Green here.

Where's the color!?!

I followed them over the Mt through Green Gerton.....and away they went.

As it turned out the BRP was closed in both directions from Asheville today but word was that I could get to Mt Mitchell from the North side.

So I blasted my way up Curtis Creek and soon found myself atop the Blue Ridge.

Green still seemed to be the predominant color....except for that White cloud hovering over the Black Mtns.

Just a splash of yellow here and there...I thought there'd be more by now.

That one cloud just hugging the top of that mountain under a clear blue sky........

....it just begs for you take a closer look....

What's it trying to hide anyway? :bom_annoyed:

Well you know that I just had to see what would cause the King of the Black Mtns to wear White! That and I'm not very smart.

This is getting ugly. :yesnod:

Have I lost my mind? :biggrinjester:

The road is dry and my heated grips are cranked :fineprint: I soldier on!

Even the grass is still Green here.

I can still see out from under that cloud.....Wow it sure is a beautiful day "out there"! :green_lol:

The gates are Open! :hurray:

White is NOT a color! :furious:

It seems that I'm not alone in this endeavor....

:hurray: As high as you're allowed to take the moto! :yesnod:

But it appears to be high enough......what do you think?

:fineprint: time to get out of here!! :yesnod:

Light at the end of the tunnel....

Yep....that was a bit surreal.

I guess that there may still be time to get up there for some color as this is about the most I seen.

Unless of course you count the setting sun over my shoulder on the last leg home......

Great MotoPhoto Journalism.

I've been up there a couple of times with snow in the trees.

Once when they were locking the gates, I was one of the last ones through.

It's nice to see that even some Harley riders don't mind risking frostbite for a good view.

Looks like you're not the only one who likes to take visitors to Larkin's, either.

That was AWESOME. I was too worried about the weather on the BRP that I headed to Uwharrie State park instead. Mountains there are much lower and no color change yet. I can't believe I missed out?

I am definitely headed up there this coming weekend. I'll try to squeeze in some last of the season camping as well.

Thanks for sharing the photo's.

4 of us were ridding that area that weekend (The snake, crooked road) it was cold but little traffic. We kept saying we were nuckinfuts. I sure like my electric vest, heated grips. GREAT PICS! When will the BRP open back up?
