So I am in need of something to help my shoulders and neck pain after longer rides, I am 5'10" and prefer a more upright seating position, i am running a after market seat but at stock seat height, seat position is great, no leg cramps or but burn even after 3hrs non stop riding. but i can not get the neck/shoulder pain concerns to go away. i am running a pretty tall windshield with very little wind buffer, and on the lighter side of the modular helmets, all things that can contribute to my concerns i know, but i feel that my pain now stems from bar angle and height. I am currently running stock bars with 1up 1 back risers. this did help but did not solve the problem, when I lay the bars back so that i dont find myself locking my elbows when riding they are way down, which does not work at all. So my question is where do you start in finding the right bar without buying 3 or 4 sets. looking to see if anybody has similar height and concerns as me and what they may have done to resolve it. I have searched the forums but most threads lead me how to install and so forth. I need a good starting point and do not care if the risers stay or go. looking at the Pro taper 7/8 but the options just become hard to figure out when looking at them on paper. know i am asking for a miracle here but so far this forum as answered so many of my questions thought i would give it a shot.

thanks

Try setting your current bars this way:
1 - Loosen the bars so that they can be moved but so loose as they drop with no input.
2 - Set on the bike in your normal riding position.
3 - Grasp the bars and lean backward with your arms straight.
4 - Tighten the bars and go for a test ride.
This procedure has ALWAYS worked the best for me.

Good Luck

Loosen you bars and rotate out of the way as far as possible.Sit on the bike, raise your arms straight up and without looking, slowly lower your arms until you feel comfortable.Have someone measure the difference between where your bars are normally and where you think your hands should be.I have used this method on a lot of different bikes. You can get a close feel without trying a lot of different bars and hoping for the best.

so measure the bar height from the ground with bike on center stand? if i am understanding you correct. then loosen them up and out of way close eyes hold to where i think they should be and measure from ground to hands check and see the change? ok need a 2nd set of hands for that, will try it and see. i did just go out and adjust them as the 1st comment suggested have not been able to ride yet, but will in the morning. It takes about 30 miles or so before I am starting to feel the burn in neck shoulder.

Ok so made several adjustments over the weekend and lots rides. No complaints there any excuse to ride!! I have them way way better. I have a longer ride planned in about 2 weeks for the Smoky mountain 500 and not sure I want to make a complete upset on the setup until after that trip. That will give me time. To figure it out. I talked to revzilla and they will ship me a couple sets of bars to try and I can send back what I don’t want. Just a small return ship fee. For hired that was a pretty fair deal just want be able to ride but can at least install and sit there and feel how they set. Thanks for all the info and will take any further thoughts on the bars.
