Headlight problems

So I was wondering just how common this problem is? Last night on my way home from a 500km ride I started to have problems. The headlights began to intermittently blink off and on.It was after dark but luckily I wasn't to far from home.Between my auxiliary fog lights and the street lights I made it home but the guy in the car in front of me must have been wondering what the hell was going on.
By the time I got home they had stopped working altogether yet when I checked them about an hour later they were working again.
I searched the site and have noticed that this seems to be happening more than it should be.
I haven't had time to troubleshoot the origin of the problem yet but after searching this site and reading quite a few posts I think I should be able to find the source of the problem and will definitely be ordering an Eastern Beaver headlight relay kit.
Also I have HID's installed and I am not sure if they contributed to the problem or not?
The one thing that was happening to me that I didn't read in any of the posts was that every time the lights went out I noticed that the blue High Beam indicator light lit up although not as bright as it normally would because when I cycled back and forth from high to low it would get brighter on high and dimmer on low yet the lights would remain out until they "felt "like coming back on.

I feel that if this is happening to more than a few bikes then Suzuki should address the problem with a recall as it is definitely a safety issue.I really don't think that the owners of these bikes should have to have to fix the problem and install something that should have been installed at the factory.

Both models got cutouts starting in 2005. The high beam light coming on at low brilliance most likely means the headlight ground is compromised. Check the connector under the rubber cover in the left side of the fairing. The B/W connection is probably overheated. A problem in the connector behind the radiator is also possible. I would have liked to see an option for no, but using relays and even yes, and using relays.

Thanks for the advice Greywolf.Trust me I was lucky enough to figure out how to post a poll.Feel free to post a more thorough poll.
I won't get around to looking at the bike until Sunday at best but will post results as soon as I can.
Does the Eastern Beaver kit work with the HID lights that I have installed?

The HID kit includes a relay. A relay kit would be redundant.

I don't think it would be recall worthy, but I have had a small problem with the lights when they were on low beam. The low beam lights were out but high beam worked fine. It turned out to be a problem with corrosion at the yellow connector that's attached to the back of the radiator. The low beam would work fine after I washed the bike, then about an hour later it would go out again. Most of you guys don't have much to worry about since mine didn't start doing it until about 112,000 miles.

OK. I finally got around to looking at my bike last night. The stock headlight connection from the bike to the Hid relay wiring harness was loose.Fixed this and only had low beams.Seems the Hid relay/controller is now messed up as the high beam fuse keeps blowing.Reinstalled the stock lights and all is well.
I will order a new relay wiring kit and reinstall the Hid's as I really really like them when driving at night. When on high beam those babies really light up the night especially off to the sides.
So my problem had nothing to do with the bike per say although there seems to be an abnormal amount of headlight failures on these bikes.

I am definately going to go over all the wiring connections with dielectric grease this winter.

It's unlikely to be the bulbs if both went out at the same time. Probabilities in order of likelihood are the starter button switch, the connector under the rubber cover in the left side of the fairing and the connectors behind the radiator on the ends of the handlebar switch cables.

At least you know where the problem is. Take the connector apart, use contact cleaner and pinch the female connector for a tighter fit and see if that helps. Do get a headlight relay kit or buy a pair of relays and do the wiring to save money if it is comfortable.
